  1. Caiophoras are classic plants of rocky scree habitats in the high Andes from Ecuador south to Chile. Most species have reddish orange flowers, but this one, with it white flowers that look like stranded jellyfish nestled among the vicious spines of its leaves, is surely the weirdest of the bunch! Caiophora coronata is a prostrate alpine plant that is found above the treeline in the Andes central Chile, reaching over the border into western Argentina and far southern Bolivia.
