⁸Tawny-bellied Hermit Hummingbird

A very friendly Tawny-bellied Hermit Hummingbird. We went with one of our guides to his "country" house and the little bird was waiting there for him to refill the feeder. I think he is called Leonardo because the bird is a bit of a con "artist".

  1. Is Leonardo the first TBHH? Oh, he will be so happy! :-) Posted one year ago
    1. I feel like I'm missing some cultural reference. Who is this Leonardo? Posted one year ago
      1. You are not missing anything, Ferdy! My guide and his wife named this friendly Tawny-bellied Hermit Hummingbird "Leonado" with no r. Because Tawny in Spanish means lion-colored, leonado. But everyone thinks they are saying Leonardo with the r and the name stuck. :-) Posted one year ago
        1. I removed Leonardo from the tags. I do not want to confuse anyone. Posted one year ago
          1. Haha, thanks for explaining the reference. Posted one year ago

The tawny-bellied hermit is a species of hummingbird. It is found in the mountains of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru usually in humid forest understory and undergrowth. This is where it spends its time foraging for arthropods and nectar via traplining like the diet of most if not all hummingbirds.
