Decollate snail or Rumina decollata These snails were introduced to the cities of the Sonoran Desert from the Mediterranean region to control the Brown Garden Snails which were themselves introduced as a possible source for escargot.  They are common in gardens and damp lawns where they also eat dead leaves and occasionally young seedlings so their presence in huge numbers can  sometimes be a pest.<br />

The decollate snail, scientific name "Rumina decollata", is a medium-sized predatory land snail, a species of terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Subulinidae. It is a European species that has been introduced in a number of areas worldwide.
