  1. One of the highest-ranging hummingbirds, being found as high up as 4500 masl! (I wasn't too far off, as this was taken at 4200 meters.)
I'd seen it a couple of times over the previous days, but always far off, flitting from flower to flower and then disappearing. This was my first opportunity to properly study one up close and really appreciate its subtle beauty.

  2. Adorable catch! Though Hummingbirds are my favorites I was surprised to find the Buffy Helmetcrest in the paramo of Colombia at about 4,000 meters. It seemed too cold up there for hummers, but there they were. Posted one year ago
    1. Yes, they're probably the hummers I most want to see, so cute. Posted one year ago
      1. Your Thornbill may have been more challenging to see. If you go to Nevado del Ruiz in Colombia, it is very likely you will see the Buffy Helmetcrest dining on the Espeletia plants. We saw them all 3 times we drove up there. Posted one year ago
        1. Fingers crossed for my next visit! Posted one year ago
