    Purple is an unusual but beautiful color to find on beetles. They get their color from the fungi they eat. There is a species of fungus beetles in Arizona that also has a purple/blue color. Pleasing Fungus Beetle or Cypherotylus Californicus

      Wow, that's a beautiful one also. Note that "Pleasing Fungus Beetles" is the name of an entire family of beetles, Erotylidae. But not all of them are as pleasing as these two purple species! Posted one year ago

        And there's also another family of beetles, Endomychidae, called the Handsome Fungus Beetles. Makes you think "pleasing" and "handsome" are mutually exclusive. Posted one year ago
