Antillean Crested Hummingbird Another friendly visitor in the garden of our resort in Dominica, an Antillean Crested Hummingbird. I think this one is male as he has a crest but he was lighter in color than a few of the others feeding on the flowers. Any confirmation appreciated.<br />

  1. According to Wikipedia: This species holds the first record of any avian species that became prey to an amblypygid, otherwise known as a tailless whipscorpion. Posted one year ago
    1. I've read that, very interesting.

Note: I slightly moved the geotag into the island of Dominica, because before it was in the ocean.

      1. Thanks, Ferdy. I appreciate it. Do not want anyone drowning to see this bird! :) Posted one year ago
        1. Saw lots of traffic going there on boat radar, was just in time ;) Posted one year ago
          1. I would have had a guilt complex without your intervention :) Posted one year ago, modified one year ago
  2. Hmm I think this is a young male or a female. Adult males are proper punks, with a really funny disheveled crest that stands straight up about twice as high as on your bird. Posted one year ago, modified one year ago
    1. Thanks, Thibaud! I would think young male as the descriptions all say the female has no crest. There is definitely a crest here, albeit not high. Posted one year ago
