  1. I am pretty sure I saw one of these giants in Colombia a few years ago. It landed on a friend's backpack. It was huge. Had no idea we had them in the USA. Amazing! Posted one year ago

The Yellow-edged Giant Owl (Caligo atreus) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. The species can be found from Mexico to Peru. The wingspan is 140–160 mm. The larvae feed on Musa and Heliconia species and can be a pest for banana cultivation. Adults feed on juices of rotting fruit.
