King bird-of-paradise, Malayauw, Papua Not sure what's going on with this individual. It's missing a lot of feathers in the face and it does not have the decorative tail feathers. Could be a juvenile but I think he's probably past his peak. The king bird-of-paradise is a passerine bird of the Paradisaeidae family. It is considered by the IOC checklist to be the only member of the genus "Cicinnurus", although the genus "Diphyllodes" is closely related and is subsumed under "Cicinnurus" by many other authorities.
