  1. This photo is just mesmerizing. I hope it made some nice loud cracker sounds for you! I have heard some other Hamadryas species make their sounds and it is always a surprise. Posted one year ago

      1. I think they make the sound when they fly off of whatever they are clinging to. It is quite surprising to hear, coming from a smallish butterfly. Posted one year ago

The Gray Cracker or Grey Cracker is a species of cracker butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. It is found from Argentina north through tropical America to Mexico. Rare strays can be found up to the lower Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas. The habitat consists of subtropical forests, forest edges and cultivated areas with trees.
