  1. A tricky little hummingbird, found at scattered sites in the savannas of northeastern South America, with a bizarre disjunct population in Ecuador, leading me to believe that someday it will be found at one of the white-sand sites of Peru... Posted one year ago
    1. Seems rarely photographed, nice one! The bill has an interesting upwards curve, or is that the tongue? Posted one year ago
      1. Yep, it's probably one of the trickier hummingbirds of lowland South America, and I got it with no effort whatsoever, as it randomly appeared in front of me!
You're absolutely right, it has that weird avocet-like upturned bill that gives it its name, completely unique among hummingbirds if I'm not mistaken.

        1. The word "awl" wasn't in my vocabulary, didn't know what it meant, now I do, thanks! Posted one year ago
          1. Since you're not an archaeologist or leatherworker, I'm not surprised ;) Posted one year ago, modified one year ago
            1. Haha! Posted one year ago
