Eyelash viper (Bothriechis schlegelii)
This beautiful creature was resting on a rock by the riverbed of the Bananito River, near the Selva Bananito Lodge in Caribbean Costa Rica.
Since this snake is venomous, our guide wouldn't let me get any closer (very prudent, actually!), and back then I did not yet carry any tele-zoom with me…

The eyelash viper is a venomous pit viper species found in Central and South America. Small and arboreal, these snakes are characterized by their wide array of color variations, as well as the superciliary scales over the eyes. They are the most common of the green palm-pitvipers, and are often present in zoological exhibits.
