Leopard Stalk On our last safari through Kruger NP and heading back to camp I saw movement in the grasses down the dusty side road. We had just passed a small herd of Impala and here was this leopard stalking the herd, but around the front of our vehicle a male Impala came and challenged the leopard who retreated into the grasses. 1. A male Impala challenged a leopard? That's incredible. Posted 11 years ago
    1. Yes It did and I have uploaded a photo if the impala at the time. The guides said that leopards are reluctant to take on a male impala as they have dangerous horns. Posted 11 years ago

The leopard is one of the five "big cats" in the genus "Panthera". It is a member of the Felidae family with a wide range in regions of sub-Saharan Africa, West Asia, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia to Siberia. Fossil records found in Italy suggest that in the Pleistocene it ranged as far as Europe.
