  1. Gyps Vulvus. In Dutch: Vale gier.

Finally found some time to take some photos of animals. My photocourse this courseyear was about portraits (humans) and streetphotography; so I took a lot of photos but no animals, flowers and landscapes. But I will have some time for that the next months! Bye, Josine

    1. A brilliant return that is!
Where did you get to this bird so up-close? By the way, it's Gyps fulvus.

      1. Thank you for the compliment! This photo is taken in a small zoo, behind glass ;-)
When I did the identification it automatically gave the name Griffon Vulture next to the identification Gyps Fulvus which I entered. May be Ferdi can correct this double identification by hand?

        1. I guess the only other way to come closer are special feeding grounds, but they would not be sitting so peacefully. I have seen them in the wild in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains, but they were very far. I had uploaded a few photos last year.
I have no idea where that misspelling came from. I checked the JD species database and there is only one entry which is Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus). Even the search gave no results. Maybe it is somewhere in the species identification keywords if there is such thing.

          1. Yes, there is such a thing. One species record can be associated with many synonyms, all pointing to that same species record. A synonym is added for each successful search, even if the search was misspelled. When you get suggestions from the search field while you are searching, you are actually looking at synonyms, not directly at species records.

The reason that misspellings may occur in that list is because the Wikipedia API, the programmatic interface JungleDragon "talks to" actually allows slight misspellings. In the case of a misspelling it will sometimes still redirect to the correct Wikipedia page, but not always.
