  1. One of my favorite encounters from my last trip to the lowlands! Like antpittas, antthrushes are highly elusive birds but they're not actually all that shy and will often come quite close, the trick being to actually spot them, as they have an uncanny knack for remaining hidden while they're loudly singing just a few meters away from you!
I've now finally seen all three of Peru's Formicarius antthrushes, so the next goal will be the Chamaeza antthrushes, which are far more elusive still - I've yet to see a single one!

    1. Congrats on the triplet, and I'm confident your next target does not stand a chance :) Posted one year ago
      1. Thanks Ferdy! To be fair, they're just in a different league, what hardcore birders call megas, really some of the hardest birds to encounter, let alone photograph. To give you an idea, Black-faced antthrush, the easiest of the bunch, has 411 photos on ebird. This one, Rufous-capped, has 237. Meanwhile, in Peru, the three ocurring Chamaeza antthrushes have a combined 4 photos between them, including one species that's never been photographed in the country! Posted one year ago

      1. I'm sure, as I said above, that you'll do better than that, Thibaud. Posted one year ago
