Shell whitish with horny brown hue, finely granulated on upper side, with 5 interrupted brown colour bands producing a characteristically dashy zigzag colour pattern, the third band exactly on the keel line, juveniles sharply keeled, last whorl can also be weakly keeled until shortly before the aperture, aperture inside weakly reddish, with white reflected lip, connected by a thin callus at the parietal side, umbilicus open in juveniles, in adults half closed or completely covered.
