Venus Flytrap - Dionaea muscipula
The Venus Flytrap is a carnivorous plant. The plant’s bi-lobed leaves have sensory hairs that trigger the trap to close only when touched twice within 20 seconds. This eliminates false closures. The edges of the trap have sharp spikes, which interlock, preventing prey from escaping. Next, digestion begins, but only if the prey in the trap is a living insect as the plant can discern movement. By secreting enzymes, the trap transforms the insect into soupy goo, which is then absorbed into the plant’s tissues.

The Venus flytrap , ''Dionaea muscipula'', is a carnivorous plant native to subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States. It catches its prey—chiefly insects and arachnids— with a trapping structure formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves and is triggered by tiny hairs on their inner surfaces.
