2 Ethiopian Wolves on the Sanetti Plain 2 of the 3 Ethiopian Wolves that we saw whilst we were crossing the Sanetti Plain atop of the Bale Mountains. We were out walking at about 4,000 metres, around a shallow pond on a clear but dull day, after quite a wet period for the area. We just looked up and felt so privileged to see 3 wolves trotting along, and not paying any heed at all to us. This was a magic moment to see the rarest canids on earth and we watched them for about 5 minutes before they disappeared. 1. The next day we saw a further 2 wolves and despite the fog, a temporary clearance gave us good views of one wolf climbing up through rocks on the Sanetti Plain.
Ethiopian Wolf on the Sanetti Plain On our 2nd day which was very foggy, we saw a further 2 separate wolves whilst returning to Goba. Fortunately, just as we saw the 2nd wolf, the fog lifted for a couple of minutes and we watched it climb out of sight. 1. Thank you Ferdy, Ethiopia's a wonderful multicultural country, with amazing scenery and some amazing wildlife, the birds are incredible. These wolves, unfortunately, are living on edge. Posted one year ago

The Ethiopian wolf, also called the Simien jackal and Simien fox, is a canine native to the Ethiopian Highlands. In southeastern Ethiopia it is also known as the horse jackal. It is similar to the coyote in size and build, and is distinguished by its long and narrow skull, and its red and white fur.
