Cracked_Granite_at_Porthcurno,_Cornwall This was taken at Porthcurno in Cornwall. This is quite a spectacular area of the coast with particularly rugged features. I wanted to capture the beautiful shapes in the rock, which have been weathered and cracked over time (this is why I opted for side-lighting). I included a person in the shot to give it a sense of scale. The lighting and tones in the sky meant that this converted really nicely to black and white. To maximize resolution, I took a succession of images vertically and stitched them together in Photoshop. My shutter speed was slow (1/20) to blur the movement of the person and water, but I maintained a narrow aperture for sharpness.
