painted firetail finches Emblema pictum

these beautiful little finches are a commonly kept bird in australia as they are hardy and breed well the one thing they love to do is build nests ....they say theyd build a nest in your pocket if you stood still long enough and are known to land on your camera in the wild they are very friendly and a real joy!

  Hi ferdy this is actually in an undercover aviary shot thru the wire, hence the fill in flash they were a rescue and restore bird from an elderly lady who could no longer care for them, buddy (top)and holly soon settled built 3 nests and started breeding and had 3 chicks i then passed them on to a mates dad for his first time effort at keeping birds...still going strong! The Painted finch

The painted finch is a common species of estrildid finch found in Australia. It is also known as the painted firetail or the painted firetail finch. It is the only species in the genus ''Emblema''.

It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 1,000,000 km2. It is found in semi-desert areas, grassland and subtropical dry grassland. The IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern.
