  1. At last! This pretty wader has been eluding me for a long time! I missed it the entire time I was living in the US, then had a vagrant turn up one hour from my house in France, while I was at the other end of the country, and then dipped it every time I was in Amazonia, where it is a regular passage migrant. The buff-breasted sandpiper is a small shorebird. The species name "subruficollis" is from Latin "subrufus", "reddish" and "collis", "-necked/-throated". It is a calidrid sandpiper.
