Common Ground Dove, Palm Cay, New Providence, Bahamas, 17 Aug 2022
Common Ground Dove photographed at Palm Cay, New Providence, Bahamas, 17 Aug 2022. I saw several of these birds, and true to their name, I mostly saw them foraging on the ground. They all were a dark reddish-brown colour. This one was a bit of a rebel with its light grey colouring (aside from the underside of the wings) and hanging out atop some razor wire that was on top of a wall surrounding the marina.

The common ground dove is a small bird that inhabits the southern United States, parts of Central America, the Caribbean and northern South America. The common ground dove is considered to be the smallest dove that inhabits the United States.
