Draba chionophila (Brassicaceae) This small plant has been identified by botanists as the vascular plant species that grows highest up in Venezuela (up to 4,700 m.a.s.l.). Its ability to withstand frost and low temperatures has been investigated, and it certainly also resists strong solar radiation. Here it was the only plant for hundreds of meters around, on the Sierra de la Culata in the Venezuelan Andes, but that was no problem for the occasional insect that comes to pollinate it, as seen on the picture.
