Peacock Butterfly I took this when I was on a walk on Mother's Day (UK), I have noticed the more I watch some butterflies they spend some time on a flower then as they fly off they seem to find somewhere to land on the ground. I saw this happening last year and again on this walk. In fact the further down the lane I went the more butterflies I saw taking off from the ground. Is there a reason for this. 1. Not sure for the reason of the behavior you observed, Bridget, but a great photo nonetheless. This is a beautiful butterfly. Posted 11 years ago
  2. I have seen it so often now there must be a reason I am sure, it is almost like they take to the ground to either rest or do something else. I would love to know travismorhardt, if you find anything out would you let me know, I will also do some research. Posted 11 years ago
    1. I'm not a biologist but my guess would be that they are resting indeed. In the butterfly stage they are short-lived, a few weeks at most, and need to be very active. Another factor may be the temperature. Butterflies in the early colder mornings cant even taken of until the temperature rises. Posted 11 years ago

The European Peacock, more commonly known simply as the Peacock butterfly, is a colourful butterfly, found in Europe and temperate Asia as far east as Japan.
