  1. How's the mushrooming this year? Posted one year ago
    1. We've finally had a good amount of rain and cooler weather and they appear to be making up for the nonexistent season last year. So many - and types I think I may have never seen before. Some of the more common ones are out in flocks - people on local social media are all agog over the Amanita muscaria, there's probably 3 or 4 times as many as usual and many are getting to be dinner plate sized (and many people are convinced they are deadly poison, which they aren't). We're going to go out after some chanterelles or matsutake this weekend, haven't decided which yet though.

I may have just missed my chance for some nice porcini though... there's a spot just a short walk from my house where they grow... I went down and there were 6.. more than I've ever seen before, but all but one was past edibility- :( I'm wondering (and hoping) if they might fruit again, if the weather stays agreeable.

      1. That's fantastic! We've gotten a lot of rain, but there aren't many mushrooms for some reason. Maybe the rain came too late or else the temps weren't right. Glad to hear that you are seeing a lot, though! I hope you find some good ones this weekend! Posted one year ago
