  1. I very rarely post more than one photo of a given species, but in this case I felt I had to! I like the other photo (taken with the telephoto), because it's nice and sharp. But I like this one as well, taken with my crappy point and shoot of a different individual in that same population (there were probably some 200 blooming individuals in a single field), which highlights the beautiful reddish color that the species often presents and the very obvious omega marking that gives it its name.
    Plus that whole group (including O. fleischmanni, which I posted a while back) contains some of the prettiest bee orchids in my opinion, and I'd never seen any before this trip to Crete, so hopefully you can all understand my enthusiasm!
