Tree climbing lions
|| Central Serengeti || Aug 2022
"Tree climbing lions" is one phrase that may sound obscure to those that have never seen this unusual behaviour in lions. While leopards up on trees is a common occurrence the unique behaviour of lions up on trees, is a sight to behold.
This is thought to be a behavioural adaptation in order to protect themselves from irritation of insects bites while on the ground, as well as believed to be escaping the intense heat on the ground which is quite sheltered while on tree branches, as well as give them a great vantage to observe and watch the movement of their prey as they move unsuspecting over the savanna grasslands grazing.

The lion is one of the five big cats in the genus "Panthera" and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
