
The black-spotted bare-eye is a species of insectivore passerine bird in the antbird family Thamnophilidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

If I'm not mistaken, the two bare-eye species are the only lowland ant-following antbirds that have red instead of blue orbital rings, I have no idea why, but it sure gives them a unique look! Posted one year ago
And yesterday i found out that there is actually now a third species in the genus, following the latest taxonomic shuffle. The Pale-faced bare-eye is a realllllly difficult Brazilian endemic, with a white eyring haha. Another one that goes on the wishlist! Posted one year ago
