  1. Anf finally a new antbird (108!°) to round out the day's good finds! This is quite a tricky one that I'd only seen once before and really wanted to photograph.
If I'm not mistaken, the two bare-eye species are the only lowland ant-following antbirds that have red instead of blue orbital rings, I have no idea why, but it sure gives them a unique look!

    1. Very nice! The unusual red rings immediately stand out, glad you elaborated on it. Posted one year ago
      1. Indeed! And this is actually the "easier" of the two. I'm amazed to see that Mike had already uploaded the much harder one!
And yesterday i found out that there is actually now a third species in the genus, following the latest taxonomic shuffle. The Pale-faced bare-eye is a realllllly difficult Brazilian endemic, with a white eyring haha. Another one that goes on the wishlist!

        1. You need to pop over to Brazil, then. ;) Posted one year ago
          1. Hopefully next year! But I'll probably first do a trip to the Atlantic coast, which is more quickly accessed from my Peruvian base, and has plenty of mouth-watering birds to keep me busy! Posted one year ago
            1. Nice! You see cool creatures everywhere you go. :) Posted one year ago
              1. Hehe, actually I was in your neck of the woods last month! Not a lot of birds, but I had great salamander encounters! Posted one year ago
                1. Oh, yeah...you need to wait for migration or else go to a zoo to see unique birds around here. ;P Awesome about the salamanders, though. Posted one year ago
                  1. Exactly, it's always good to shift focus from time to time. I was particularly pleased about a Marbled salamander that I managed to find in Connecticut! Posted one year ago
                    1. Great find! Posted one year ago
