  1. Not as close as I would have liked, but any Spizaetus photo is a great photo in my book, and this is certainly the prettiest species (check out perched photos of that beast).
    Only my second time seeing one, and the first time in Peru, so that I've now finally seen all 4 Peruvian species!

The Ornate Hawk-Eagle, "Spizaetus ornatus", is a bird of prey from the tropical Americas. Like all eagles, it is in the family Accipitridae. This species is notable for its vivid colors, which differ markedly between adult and immature birds.
