  1. I've changed the ID because this is Eumorpha fasciatus rather than Hyles lineata. Both are sphinx moths, though. H. lineata has the veins on its wings lined with white scales, making it look like it has vertical, white stripes.

    There is another similar species - Eumorpha vitis, but it doesn't have the solid brown band on the costa, like Eumorpha fasciatus does.

The Banded Sphinx Moth is a moth of the Sphingidae family. It is found from northern Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, north through Central America to southern California and southern Arizona, east to Texas, Mississippi, Florida and South Carolina. Strays can be found north up to Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Nova Scotia. It is also found in the Caribbean.
