Starlings (Juvenile) Some people do not realise how cute the juvenile starlings are, they are of course beautiful adults as well. When I was growing up in the 70s there were many starlings everywhere but over the years they seemed to be fewer in numbers. Of late I have noticed more, hopefully the Starling is making a recovery. 1. On the highway I drive to work, a few times per year giant swarms circle the area, really impressive. Sadly though, I have never photographed one up close. Anyway, great capture, promoted! Posted 11 years ago

The common starling or European starling (Sturnus vulgaris), also known simply as the starling in the British Isles, is a medium-sized passerine bird in the starling family, Sturnidae. It is about 20 cm (8 in) long and has glossy black plumage with a metallic sheen, which is speckled with white at some times of year.
