Spotted Lanternfly - Lycorma delicatula

These buggers have made their way to Connecticut. They are an invasive species that was first detected in the US in 2014 (Pennsylvania).

  Thank you! And, ugh I know -- it's so hard with invasive species because their natural predators are absent from the places where they are introduced. In the case of the spotted lanternfly, their populations would be kept in check by parasitic wasps in Asia. Unfortunately, we don't have those specific wasps here. Posted 2 years ago

The Spotted Lanternfly

The spotted lanternfly is a planthopper that is indigenous to China, India, and Vietnam. Although it has two pairs of wings, it jumps more than it flies. Its host plants include grapes, stone fruits, and "Malus" species, though its preferred host is "Ailanthus altissima".
