  1. I've removed the ID because this is not Papilio troilus. It's the dark morph female of Papilio glaucus. They are easily confused. Dorsally, you can tell the difference because Papilio glaucus has a dark, way line separating the blue area on the hindwings.

    Very cool find! I've never seen a dark morph female in person. <3

The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail is a species of swallowtail butterfly native to North America. It is one of the most familiar butterflies in the eastern United States, where it is common in many different habitats. It flies from spring to fall, during which it produces two to three broods.
