  1. This seems an unlikely - Neoitamus cyanurus isn't known to be present in the US. These can be difficult to ID. Many species may come down to microscopic details.. But BugGuide can be a good place to start https://bugguide.net/node/view/151 You can set up a free account there too and possibly have an expert look your photo. Posted one year ago

''E. aestuans'' is a member of the Asilidae family. It is native to eastern North America, where it ranges from Ontario and New Hampshire south into Florida and New Mexico. It was originally described as ''Asilus aestuans'' in Carl Linnaeus' 1763 work ''Centuria Insectorum''.
