
White-footed Mosquito - Psorophora ferox
The legs, wings, and abdominal segments have purple iridescent scales. Tarsal segments 4 and 5 are entirely pale scaled (it has white "feet").
"Ferox" means fierce. It is definitely an appropriate name for this species as they inflict a very painful bite and are so aggressive.
Habitat: Drinking nectar from a flower; mixed forest

"Psorophora ferox" is a medium-sized mosquito native to much of North and South America. It inhabits wet woodlands, laying its eggs in temporary pools filled with rainwater. Larvae develop during summer in North America. They are aggressive feeders and give painful bites. The mosquito is reported to be active during both day and night.
