    1. In this case, they were attracted by a big fish oil slick, since a shark had just ripped apart the little bottle that was drifting behind our boat, supposedly releasing a slow but steady drip to attract birds (since tubenoses have an extremely developed sense of smell).
      But, in general, storm petrels feed on planktonic crustaceans, especially krill, and tiny fish.

Elliot's storm petrel is a species of seabird in the storm petrel family Hydrobatidae. The species is also known as the white-vented storm petrel. There are two subspecies, "O. g. gracilis", which is found in the Humboldt Current off Peru and Chile, and "O. g. galapagoensis", which is found in the waters around the Galápagos Islands.
