Amber dosing in a Cambara tree above the Rio Três Irmãos
The jaguars in and around the rivers above Porto Jofre are named as part of a jaguar study. If anyone submits a photo of a jaguar that has not previously been seen, then whoever submits it, gets the opportunity to name that jaguar. This was Amber, we saw her 2, 2 year old cubs Stella and Woody during the trip. We did also have the opportunity to name a large male, a day later and we called him Raul after our brilliant guide. Annually the Jaguar Identification Project publishes a guide to the jaguars of the Porto Jofre region.

The jaguar is a big cat, a feline in the "Panthera" genus, and is the only "Panthera" species found in the Americas. The jaguar is the third-largest feline after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. The jaguar's present range extends from Southern United States and Mexico across much of Central America and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina.
