Phlomis lanata is a medium-sized shrub that is endemic to the island of Crete, where it co-occurs with Phlomis fruticosa and Phlomis cretica (the latter, despite its name, is not a Cretan endemic). It can be told from these two other species from its much smaller, rounded leaves.
