Here Comes Dinner! A, I am assuming, male Caspian Tern bringing a snack for his mate who is brooding. The fellow below him is warning him off his territory in a very loud fashion. Although quite stunning in appearance their calls can’t be described as melodious! Canada,Caspian tern,Geotagged,Hydroprogne caspia,Summer Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

  1. What a shot, both the composition and timing! Posted 2 years ago
    1. Have to say, another lucky one! It was really quite lumpy with waves and wind. Fortunately the helmsman of our little boat, my wife, did a fine job and I had the camera set at continuous drive mode. Lots of photos of blue sky, rocks or waves and nothing else! Posted 2 years ago

The Caspian tern is a species of tern, with a subcosmopolitan but scattered distribution. Despite its extensive range, it is monotypic of its genus, and has no subspecies accepted either. In New Zealand it is also known by the Maori name "taranui".
