Spotted Bowerbird Chlamydera maculata
central queensland gemfields
a great mimic and a highly entertaining feature on the sapphire fields they can mimic a wide range of sounds from chainsaws and car alarms to the tuning of a radio and even the sound of digging and rocks being sieved more than once ive woken to these digging sounds coming from the sapphire hole ive been working thinking someones jumped the claim when rushing down to find this culprit playing games they also like to steal anything blue or shiny from around the camp and have been known to fly away with the odd gemstone.....keeps you on your toes and makes the day interesting sharing the sapphires with the wildlife!

The Spotted Bowerbird is a bowerbird widely distributed across inland Queensland and New South Wales.
