  1. I hope that these pictures of me holding the fish for a photo doesn't offend anyone. I know this is a wildlife sharing site, and that human subjects are off limits. But these fish are such fantastic creatures that I felt it would be a shame not to share them, and they are difficult to capture in their native environment underwater. Posted 11 years ago

The brook trout , sometimes called the eastern brook trout, is a species of fish in the salmon family of order Salmoniformes. In many parts of its range, it is known as the speckled trout or squaretail. A potamodromous population in Lake Superior is known as coaster trout or, simply, as coasters. Though commonly called a trout, the brook trout is actually a char which in North America, includes the lake trout, bull trout, Dolly Varden and the arctic char.
