Morning Encounter
A lucky shot of a shy roe deer in Slovenia. I was hiking in Robanov Kot valley, one of the nicest alpine valleys in Slovenia. This guy suddenly popped out of the grass to assess danger. I got a couple of seconds to snap this photo before he hopped into the woods.
The Western Roe Deer is a Eurasian species of deer. It is relatively small, reddish and grey-brown, and well-adapted to cold environments. Roe deer are widespread in Western Europe, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia, and from the British Isles to the Caucasus. It is distinct from the somewhat larger Siberian roe deer.
