  1. May I ask which source you used to check distribution data? It looks like GBIF suggests it is incidentally found "near" you:
    https://www.gbif.org/species/1937816

Wikipedia mentions there's a very similar looking species:
    https://www.gbif.org/species/4299873

...which seems less likely in your location.

    1. The BugGuide page links to a map on North American Moth Photographers Group.

The gbif map certainly suggests it has been expanding its range.

      1. I've been increasingly using GBIF for distribution data, their data set includes many important sources, but I'm not sure if it includes the one you mentioned. It's still not flawless though as it may contain misidentifications. Posted 2 years ago
        1. What about Papilio indra as a potential ID? Posted 2 years ago, modified 2 years ago
          1. For some reason, I didn’t think it was that one when I was comparing them… the description seemed wrong on the page I was using, but it looks like it’s got a lot of local variation… and that definitely looks right, with a much, much more plausible distribution. It also mentions short tails, which this on absolutely has. Posted 2 years ago
            1. And, as a bonus -- it gives you another species intro. :) Posted 2 years ago
              1. The really amazing thing is that I rarely go out, even in my own neighborhood, without finding something I’ve never documented before… (I won’t say seen… I see a lot of things I don’t manage to ‘catch’) People I know complain they never ‘see anything’ when they hike.. they just need to pay attention to more than just big mammals… Posted 2 years ago, modified 2 years ago
                1. I totally agree -- mostly that you see a lot of undocumented species, lol! It's incredible! I find that I see so many things because I pay attention to the little things just like you mentioned. There is always something to see. But, not as many are undocumented in my area.
