It's May! Male may beetle flying around hawthorn tree in Slovenia. I never managed to get a shot like this until the new AF systems of the modern cameras. This was photographed with the new Nikon Z 8 and 100-400mm lens. The focus simply grabbed the beetle and it was easy to get shots like this... 1. Had been reading about that camera, extraordinary, like a mini Z9, right? Posted 2 years ago
    1. Basically the same camera with the grip removed. I just sold my Z9 today as it was too bulky to carry around and travel with. Posted 2 years ago
      1. Great camera Luka. I am using a Z7-2 and am already considering an upgrade Posted 2 years ago

The cockchafer, colloquially called May bug or doodlebug, is a European beetle of the genus Melolontha, in the family Melolonthidae. Some authors would place the Melolonthidae as a subfamily Melolonthinae of the family Scarabaeidae.
