European garden spider (Araneus diadematus) Sometimes, you don't have to travel far and wide to find beautiful nature. This is just a "humble" European garden spider (which in German we call "Cross spider") that is very easy to find, but nevertheless I'm fascinated by its aesthetics. This was a casual shot I took during a walk through some heathlands to the North of Munich. The spider species "Araneus diadematus" is commonly called the European garden spider, diadem spider, orangie, cross spider and crowned orb weaver. It is sometimes called the pumpkin spider, although this name is also used for a different species, "Araneus marmoreus". It is an orb-weaver spider found in Europe and North America.
