  1. Not easy to get an eye so clear on a black head Posted 2 years ago
    1. Thanks, Niel! Posted 2 years ago
  2. Lovely shot! But it's the Eastern one, O. melanoleuca. Posted 2 years ago
    1. Thanks Thibaud!. Questionable. Latest taxonomy considers two subspecies: O.hispanica hispanica (Western) and O,h.melanoleuca (Eastern).

      1. Ah yes, sorry, all my birding is done vie eBird, which follows the Clements taxonomy, and I often forget that Jungledragon follows the COL taxonomy, which doesn't recognize the species-level split in this case. Posted 2 years ago
        1. Everything is OK, Thibaud! I am also using eBird for my bird records. But taxonomic changes are so dynamic, we also often make changes in JD, new genomic methods necessitate this. Posted 2 years ago
          1. Haha yes I know! I am still getting used to some of the changes from last October's big taxonomy update, which affected a large number of Peruvian species. Posted 2 years ago
    2. I have checked all my photos and think you are right concerning the subspecies O.h.melanoleuca - a black-throated morph, with rather extensive black on the forehead. A few additional shots were added. Posted 2 years ago

The black-eared wheatear is a wheatear, a small migratory passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but is now more generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher.
