Goldenrod crab spider (Misumena vatia) with prey I am really fond of basically all kinds of spiders. Crab spiders are especially easy to spot when browsing over meadows - provided you pay close attention to the individual flowers and their undersides. Some of these are true masters of hiding in plain sight, patiently waiting for an unsuspecting insect to approach a flower in full bloom. Probably the fly never saw it coming… Algarve,Geotagged,Goldenrod crab spider,Misumena vatia,Portugal,Spinne,Tiere,Winter, araña,spider Click/tap to enlarge

  1. Wow, my eye instantly focused on the prey, initially missing the spider entirely. Posted 2 years ago

"Misumena vatia" is a species of crab spider with holarctic distribution. In North America, where it is the largest and best-known flower spider, it is called the goldenrod crab spider or flower spider, because it is commonly found hunting in goldenrod sprays in the autumn.
