Spanish festoon (Zerynthia rumina) I know this is not a great photo, since the butterfly is quite far away. Alas, at that time I only had my 105mm lens with me, but I was super excited to encounter this beauty so I had to at least snap a picture with what I had. Actually, the species is quite common in various local patches on the Iberian peninsula, but as Wikipedia says &ldquo;is an extremely striking species&rdquo; - indeed!<br />

Luckily some years later when I encountered its &ldquo;cousin&rdquo; (Southern Festoon) in Slovenia, I was better prepared&hellip;<br />

Southern Festoon (Zerynthia polyxena) I can't help myself, but whenever I see a “Festoon” butterfly (in German “Osterluzeifalter”) I get almost giddy with excitement, they are so strikingly beautiful. The Spanish Festoon, "Zerynthia rumina", is a butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. It is a widespread species in Spain and frequents most habitats.
