Dandelion Fasciation - Taraxacum officinale
Fasciation is a rare malformation in vascular plants in which there is abnormal growth that occurs perpendicular to the normal direction of growth. This produces flattened, enlarged, and contorted tissues. There are numerous possible causes, including hormonal, genetic, bacterial, fungal, viral and environmental.
Habitat: I spotted this enormous, fasciated dandelion growing in a cluster of normal dandelions on a lawn. I took this photo with my cell phone and intended to go back with my camera for more photos; but, sadly, the grass had been mowed and the dandelions were victims of the mowing.

"Taraxacum officinale", the common dandelion, is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant of the family Asteraceae. It can be found growing in temperate regions of the world, in lawns, on roadsides, on disturbed banks and shores of water ways, and other areas with moist soils.
