
Longhorn Spiny Spider (Macracantha Arcuata) ARANEIDAE
Previously know as "Gasteracantha Arcuata". The exceptionally long median spined on this unmistakable spider curve inward and are two to three times longer then the length of the abdomen. There are several colour morphs including black, yellow, orange and more frequently encounter white and red. The egg sac is covered with golden silk strands laced with dark greenish swathes (inset).
Length: ♀️7-10mm, ♂️unknown.
Habitat: In the shadier fringes of secondary and primary forest.
Distribution: Widespread, including Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak, Johor, Selangor), Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Maluku), Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, parts of China and South Asia (southern India).

''Macracantha'' is a species of orb-weaver spider in the ''Macracantha'' genus. They can grow up to 10mm in length and have a hard, flat body with three spines coming from the abdomen.
