Saffron Parasol - Cystoderma amianthinum This was a really cool mushroom that I have never seen before. Unfortunately, most of my photos of it are very bad. Hopefully I will see it again so I can document it better!<br />

Saffron Parasol - Cystoderma amianthinum

This was a really cool mushroom that I have never seen before. Unfortunately, most of my photos of it are very bad. Hopefully I will see it again so I can document it better!

  1. What stands out for this mushroom to make it so cool? Rarity? The cap? Posted 2 years ago
    1. It's probably just a matter of opinion. The cap is wrinkled and has an interesting, granular texture with fringe around the edges and the stipe has a granular sheath. Plus, it smells terrible. I mostly just really like the texture. ;P Posted 2 years ago

Cystoderma amianthinum is a small orange-ochre, or yellowish-brown, gilled mushroom. It grows in damp mossy grassland, in coniferous forest clearings, or on wooded heaths. It is probably the most common of the small "Cystoderma" genus. Possibly edible, it is not recommended due to its unpleasant odour and resemblance to poisonous species.
